A Meditation on Prayer
Whether you define God as Mother Earth, Buddha, or Christ the Son – or as anything that has greater power over your thoughts than you do – prayer to and/or meditation about ‘God’ can be powerful things to help you find Hope, Peace, and Joy in your Alzheimer’s journeys. In keeping with Betty’s Tenet of all we CAN do, we invite you to stop, breathe, and ponder this:
A Prayer to Quiet Worry
“In nothing be anxious.”
—Philippians 4:6
Such a simple prayer! All-too often, such a difficult thing to do. What might help is to read the ‘before’ and ‘after’ of St. Paul’s message.
Before: “God is near.”
Remember: You are never alone in your Alzheimer’s journey.
Before that: “Rejoice! Your kindness should be known to all.”
Caregivers, especially, must focus on all they DO-with-Love, not their (perceived) shortcomings.
After: “Rather, in everything by prayer and meditation make your requests known to God.”
After that: Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding* will guard your hearts and minds….”
Betty’s Love Families like yours prove every day that, usually, it actually does.
We of Betty’s Love know how many anxieties could worry you – just in your Activities of Daily Life. Truly: We get it! AND (as it’s rarely “But” in Betty’s Love) we invite you to pause, focus on positivity, and, yes, pray before you worry.
Betty’s Three Things™ you can do today to find whatever you need in prayer and meditation:
3. Make time to Embrace your Spirit – in a Betty’s Sacred Spaces anywhere in the world – or simply put your hands in the Mother Earth of your very own back yard. Feel free to whistle while you work – or channel Dorothy’s mantra: “There’s no place like Home!”
2. Enroll in or tailor to your Family’s unique and unchartable needs one of Betty’s Lessons-with-Love that focuses on prayer and meditation.
1. Stop! Breathe deeply – for three counts. Exhale slowly – for nine counts. And count two things you’ve done well today – and allow yourself to accept that you’ve definitely done them -with-Love.
*P.S. – Who knew that’s where we find the phrase (“a peace that’s beyond undertstanding”)?! Oh, that’s right: God did!
Thank you for your prayers for Betty’s Love and Betty’s Vision of JOY. Know you and your family are already in ours.
