My First Prayer … an’ One More Thing
Now I lay me down to sleep.
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.
God bless Mommy & Daddy & Susie & Joey & Reenie….
… an’ One More Thing, Dear God, I pray:
At start and end of every day,
Bless them, O Lord, who watch did keep
over Our Mom – awake, in sleep.
Nurses. Therapists. Volunteers. Staff.
Quick with a hand. A hug. A laugh.
Angels who fed, clothed, bathed, and Loved,
whose care-with-compassion went hand-in-glove.
With songs & films & age-old rhymes,
with stories about “The Good Old Times,”
they strove to keep her memory keen,
ever understanding she was Our Queen.
Did nails & hair. Squired to & fro.
Honored her with “Requiem” on piano.
Sweet Goodnight Kiss to her forehead.
Friends nurtured Our Mom in our stead.
And in her last days, toiled to relieve
her pain and fear. Prayed. With us, grieved.
They miss her, too, they all tell me.
Such Blessings, “My K-B Family!”
So Bless them, Lord, and let them Know:
Peace, Joy, & Love – where’er they go.
And please be sure that they Know, too:
They’ve TWO Angels now: Betty & You.
